Ok, so I heard about this game for the ps3 called infamous. a superhero game that was supposed to be gritty and fresh. so I picked up the game and I gots a review for all the people who thought about buying the game.

!!!IN THIS REVIEW I WILL NOT SPOIL THE PLOT I WILL HOWEVER GO OVER BASIC GAMEPLAY!!!

FOR STARTERS

okay, another super hero game, wup-de-frikin-do. Its not like we haven't seen these before right?(superman 64, aquaman for ps2, spiderman for ps2) so for starters i am going to compare this game to the previously mentioned ones.

well, in my opinion it is most like spiderman for the ps2. it involves saving citizens(the syestem by which you save them is simalar too, you see a blip on your radar and poof! you either try to save them or you dont), stopping major baddies and purchasing upgrades for your skills. but supercharged graphics from the ps3 and obviously better processor allows for better gamplay, for example.

the misssions
in spider man the missions were very redundant,stop the theif,stop the armored car robbing,save the kids balloon(a couple others but thats about it)

i was very impressed with the diversity of side quest missions and main quest missions in infamous, true some will repeat but you hardly ever get the same crisis twice, and even if you do, lets face it, the missions are just so darn fun! plus it is a huge world in which to do these quests. it gives you a lot of play room -_^

another cool thing about infamous is the territory system, when you stop a crime, the point where you stoped it becomes your "territory" and in your "territory" enemies will not appear. this gives you a sense of accomplishment when you beat up a bady and gives you the sense that your changing the city around you in a small way at least(btw in you areas the people are nicer and crime is down)

the powers

if you have been reading up one this game you know that the main characters powers revolve heavily on electricity. whether it be shooting lighting or creating magnetic pulses to throw cars in the air the powers in the game have a really powerful feel behind them.

through out the game you will acquire new abilitys and be able to upgrade your current one by spending exp(which you get by completing missions and killing baddies^^) all of them are fun and easy to use which adds to the sense of power this character wields

i was a little disappointed by the sound effects of the attacks and the voice acting, but the powers are fun to use and i got over it(whilst i was frying up some muggers)

the feel

when i say feel i don't mean texture, i mean the atmosphere of the game! (silly) the game has a real...post apocalyptia feel to it.( i cant say more with out ruining the story)

despite the main character having super powers the gameplay still remains challenging, in fact most of the time i would say your being overwhelmed, but play smart and you'll make it out alive (or not, maybe you just suck)

anyway while playing this game you came across many karmatic(is that a word?) choices, depending on which choice you make (good or evil(duh) ) you will receive different rewards, unlock different abilitys and change the way your character looks!(i am good, i know, i know, i am a wimp) i find these choices rather cool and i actually spend some time deciding on which one to make...and try to guess the consequences(try mind you). i know this is not anything new but infamous did it very well and it is quiet interesting to see the emotional changes in your character as he becomes good or evil. and of course your choices do affect the story line so watch out.

i love the gritty feel of the game, all too often you find that peoples live are in your hands, and you can either save them...or discard them.

the cut scenes aren't too pretty though, i sometimes feel like i am watching a slide show instead of a cut scene.( no probs with glitches though^^)

the story :spoiler free:

well what can i say... it is interesting and keeps you on the edge of your seat, very good Si-Fi feel. but if you don't pay attention you can be lost easily. the plot hits the ground running. the writing is decent, they obviously put a lot of thought into what an actual person who was given super powers would feel and go through, but sometimes you can see whats coming a mile a way. in fact it kind of reminds me of the watchmen, it just has a real life feel.(side note:they make a lot of reference to super heroes like superman and spiderman)

there are some funny parts in this game as well, most is morbid dialogue that i find amusing, but there are some funny puns E.I. headshock is an award given to you when you make a headshot (pauses for laughter)

final overview

PROS: great graphics, cool powers, compelling main character (trust me),quests have diversity(blasphemy!), large map, the super hero cliche is not used...like,at all(no tights, i swear), karma is a big and enjoyable factor of the game, remains diffcult yet not imposable(which is hard for a hero game).

CONS: the plot can be predictable at times(perhaps its greatest flaw), the sound effects for the attacks and the voice acting lack a certain...eloquence( i am not expecting a mgs4 or anything but still) cut scenes are unremarkable. humor is dull at times, although the territory system is cool it is not plausible that you stop a few crimes in one area and poof! crime goes down.

and infamous for the ps3 scores a....9.0 out of 10

i recommend you pick up this game, if you own a ps3 you know it needs hits like this. bye now!
